Thanksgiving is quickly approaching and Glaser Orthodontics near Montrose is here to help with your orthodontic treatment concerns around Thanksgiving foods and braces. Fortunately, there are brace friendly foods like mash potatoes that are plentiful at Thanksgiving meals.
Thanksgiving is one of the most widely celebrated holidays in the U.S. and it has been a tradition for over 150 years. With this holiday coming up, we expect many of our patients near Montrose to be spending time with friends, family and of course, food! Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, gravy and pies! It’s hard to eat sensible on Thanksgiving Day, but we at Glaser Orthodontics are here to remind you how to keep your teeth and braces in mind with this plethora of food. Here are some tips:
Pilgrims didn’t drink soda and you shouldn’t either! With all the sugar that is packed in traditional thanksgiving food, the added sugar in soda is definitely not necessary. Instead of cracking open a can of your favorite carbonated drink opt for milk or water. You don’t want that sugar to get trapped by your braces. Your teeth will thank you later when you save them from stains and decay.
Ask anyone and they will say that turkey makes them sleepy. Although we can’t deny that we want to take a power nap after feasting, this myth is actually not true! If you still feel yourself falling asleep after eating, remember to brush and floss before you snooze to prevent junk food from wearing away at your teeth especially for brace wearers. That small but vital step can help you and your teeth rest easy.
Although it is tempting, do not try to crack nuts with your teeth! Many like to snack on nuts during Thanksgiving, and teeth are great tools, but use a nutcracker instead to save your teeth and a trip to Glaser Orthodontics to fix damaged braces.
Don’t become too stressed. Stress can lead to poor oral habits, and although it’s hard to stop and take a breather around this busy holiday, holidays are a time to make great memories with your family and friends.
