Adolescent Braces in Westchester

Everyone always asks Dr. Glaser, adolescent braces specialist, the question, “When is the best time for my child to get braces?” Well, according to Glaser Orthodontics, orthodontic treatment starts at different ages, depending on each child’s needs. Just as no two kids are the same, no two sets of teeth are ever the same, so never consider a specific age the time for kids to get braces. Adolescent orthodontic treatment in Westchester should be considered for every child, no matter their age.

At Glaser Orthodontics in Westchester NY, childhood braces can and should be applied to avoid dental issues later in life. When kids get braces, they have less of a chance of needing tooth removal in the future as well as creating facial symmetry and room for crowded, erupting teeth. According to The American Association of Orthodontists, kids should be evaluated at around the age of seven to see if orthodontic treatment is needed. Although seven is a good age, it isn’t necessarily the age for every kid. If you have a child in Westchester that you think would benefit from braces, contact Glaser Orthodontics at 914-739-6400 or visit our website to schedule your consultation.

Westchester County Orthodontic Specialist Explains the Additional Benefits of Braces and Invisalign

Dr. Glaser, braces and Invisalign specialist, has been serving Westchester County for over 25 years and has been helping his clients specifically with their orthodontic needs.

In Cortlandt Manor, Dr. Glaser has been serving adults, children, and everyone in between with braces and Invisalign treatments, and he has always promoted these orthodontic treatments for not only their cosmetic benefits, but also their additional benefits. Braces serve as not only a technique to achieve a beautiful smile, but can also make a difference in the overall health, oral health, and oral function of the Yorktown patient.

Bad bites or jaw issues can cause pain and discomfort to the patient. Braces, Invisalign, and other orthodontic appliances fix these overbite, under bite, and cross bites which can prevent recession of the gums, teeth infractions, or uneven wear of the teeth. Bad bites not only affect the patients teeth, but can cause difficulty chewing, speech problems, or unaligned jaw joints which lead to neck aches or headaches, says Dr. Glaser. The use of braces or Invisalign to correct these problems is just another additional benefit to orthodontic treatment by Glaser Orthodontics.

When teeth have been straightened with an orthodontic appliance, the patient can clean and care for their teeth much easier. Crooked, crowded teeth can cause the patient to have trouble thoroughly brushing, flossing, and rinsing their teeth. The teeth can overlap and create “nooks and crannies” or other hard to clean spots which can than lead to build up of plaque and tartar, gum disease, cavities, or infections. These problems can wear down and destroy the hard enamel of your teeth.

Of course, the most common reason why many living in Westchester County come to Glaser Orthodontics for Dr. Glaser, braces and Invisalign specialist, is for cosmetic reasons. But beyond having a beautiful, Hollywood smile, straight teeth give everyone a boost of confidence, especially children. Having straight teeth is just another reason to exert your confidence and show off your beautiful smile.

Dr. Glaser has been serving Cortlandt Manor and surrounding areas in giving patients the oral health, functionality, and confidence due to braces and Invisalign treatments. If you are interested in improving your smile and would like to schedule a consultation, contact Dr. Glaser and his team at Glaser Orthodontics at their Cortlandt Manor office.

Dr. Glaser, an Orthodontic Specialist in Westchester, Tells you How to Prevent Cavities

For many living in Westchester, they are looking for an orthodontic specialist to help them with their Invisalign and braces necesities, and Dr. Glaser in Cortlandt Manor can assist you with all of your needs.

Did you know, cavities are one of the most common oral hygiene problems patients encounter when living with braces in Cortlandt Manor, but these annoynaces can be easily prevented. Many ask “What exactly are cavities?” Well, Dr. Glaser indicates that cavities are permanently damaged areas of the hard surface of your tooth that develop into tiny holes. These problems are caused by many factors including bacteria in your mouth, frequent snacking on sugar, and improper cleaning of your teeth. If you think you have a cavity, orthodontist Dr. Glaser says you will probably experience the following:

  • Toothache

  • Tooth sensitivity

  • Visible holes in your tooth

  • Pain when you bite

  • Pus around your tooth

Regular visits to the dentist and Glaser Orthodontics can diagnose and handle cavities, so make sure you are scheduling appointments with your Westchester dentist. To aviod complications with cavities follow these steps to prevent any troubles:

  • Brush after eating or drinking

  • Rinse your mouth

  • Consider dental sealants

  • Aviod frequent snacking or sipping

  • Consider flouride treatments

  • Floss and use mouthwash along with brushing after every meal if you have braces

What is Decalcification and How do you Prevent it?

Often times, patients who wear braces suffer from decalcification. This totally avoidable condition has permanent affects, but Glaser Orthodontics is here to help you prevent it. Decalcification is the process by which teeth lose calcium and is the early stages of tooth decay. When teeth are not properly cared for, plaque, which is a sticky bacteria-filled residue, can build up. The bacteria in the plaque produce acid which eat away at the calcium in the teeth. If this process continually occurs a cavity can occur, but decalcification is an early stage of that and only weakens the outer layer of the tooth.

Decalcification leaves white scars on your teeth that can never be removed. Whitening the teeth can improve the look of the white spots, but nothing can totally get rid of them. To prevent this, Dr. Glaser encourages all of his patients to brush at least two or three times a day, along with brushing and using a flouride mouthwash. People with braces are extremely suseptible to decalcififcation because the appliance makes it very hard to properly clean the teeth. Along with making sure you are taking care of your teeth at home, please visit your dentist in Westchester County along with your orthodontist every six months. Dentists can clear the plaque and tartar from your teeth making sure you do not develop white scars on the enamel of your tooth. If you are looking for a dentist in the Westchester area, or would like to set up an orthodontic consultation, please contact Dr. Glaser at his Cortlandt Manor office. We are glad to answer any questions you have and hope to see you soon!
