Breast & Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month

Let’s work together for the common good. Our office is actively participating to fight breast cancer and ovarian cancer. Together, we can support a great organization that is helping people who really need it. You may know someone affected by cancer, or you may not. Either way, you can do something simple to help your community fight this terrible disease and give support to those affected by it. Glaser Orthodontics wants to bring extra awareness to this cause during Breast Cancer Awareness month.

During the month of October, our office will donate $1 to Support Connection, Inc. each time a patient arrives at the office wearing pink or requests pink decorations on their appliances! In addition, our staff members will adorn their uniforms with a pink ribbon one day each week! We look good in pink, and you do too!

10 Tips for Braces Pain Relief

Braces have become more comfortable and more effective than ever! Getting fitted for braces during your initial experience can take some getting used to. There may potentially be some mild discomfort as you adjust to the new feeling of hardware inside your mouth. To relieve discomfort for first time orthodontic patients, Glaser Orthodontics has come up with 10 tips for braces pain relief you can make use of at home to alleviate some discomfort derived from your own braces.

1: Dental hygiene is a huge factor in preventing further discomfort caused by braces. By practicing great oral hygiene, you are able to care for your mouth and prevent any discomfort associated with other oral issues that may arise. It is very important that you brush and floss your teeth well during your time with braces. Pay close attention to detail and get in between teeth for a fresh mouth.

2: Rinsing your mouth with warm, salty water. This may help alleviate some of the pain that comes along with having new braces. Warmer water is great for soothing gums and teeth. When aligning teeth braces guide them into place which may cause some discomfort.

3: Orthodontic wax can create a comfortable barrier between parts of your mouth, and metal orthodontic hardware. By using orthodontic wax you are able to ease and prevent irritation within the mouth that can be caused by braces.

4: Remaining thoughtful of what you eat is important. You will want to be sure that you follow along with the guidelines for what food and drink is and isn’t a good idea with braces. Avoid foods that may irritate treatment with braces. Focus on eating soft foods like fruits and veggies. This will also alleviate some inflammation or irritation if you have any in regard to your gums.

5: Advil aspirin can treat inflammation and dull pain caused by irritation and adjusting teeth.

6: Apply Orajel or another toothache soothing gel to any sore areas in the mouth. Aid in the common toothache using this method. Apply this method to discomfort caused by braces and other hardware.

7: Gently massaging your gums with fingertips in a roundabout motion is a great exercise to practice. Remain careful to avoid rubbing your inner mouth with the sides of your brackets and wires or other hardware whilst doing so.

8: Just the same way that heat can have positive pain-relieving effect, so can ice! Using an ice pack to particularly sore regions of the mouth can provide a much-needed reduction of swelling in the mouth. Resultantly, the ice can provide a great numbing effect for the whole mouth.

9: Drinking ice water is also effective. Sort of like using an ice pack, in a more refreshing form for summer months especially.

10: Patience is a virtue as some may say. In most cases, pain generally subsides on its own within a short time. Simply getting used to the hardware can be the goal for the first month. Tightening braces may also result in some minor discomfort at first. Make an appointment with Glaser Orthodontics to relieve any troubling pain that isn’t resolved with the 10 tips for braces pain relief listed above. If you have any questions or concerns, there will never be a better time to make an appointment than right now!

Glaser Orthodontics Goes Green!

In response to the New York State ban on single-use shopping bags, Glaser Orthodontics has decided to move toward the future ahead of schedule. As an environmentally conscious practice, Glaser Orthodontics is now offering modern recyclable bags for our patients! By taking strides toward maintaining our community and the earth as a whole, Glaser Orthodontics wants to do our part in preserving the land we love.

Learn the Facts

Small changes eventually add up to create a huge impact! Over a trillion single-use plastic bags, go to waste after they serve their purpose every single year. Nearly 2 million of these bags are in circulation every 60 seconds. Plastic bags are suffocating our supply of clean air. They are poisoning our water, killing our natural inhabitants, and overall destroying the world around us. This is simply a shame because the world is a big, beautiful place.

Doing Our Part

If we want to make certain the world we know continues as it should, we have to start making differences now. With a growing population, we must take steps to eliminate harmful and overused plastic. Around every 60 years our population doubles, so if you were to imagine how many more plastic bags would potentially go into circulation, the number is almost unfathomable. The energy that goes toward creating 12 plastic bags could power a car for a mile. Energy is not free. Electricity is derived from fossil fuels, and everything is connected. Glaser Orthodontics realizes this, and we hope to do our part in remaining conscious of the world around us.

Changing Times

Governments around the world have been implementing bans on plastic bags for some time now. The European Union is taking steps to eliminate up to 80% of plastic bags by this year. In the U.S. alone over 100 billion plastic bags are used by consumers every year. This is unnecessary waste that we can easily avoid. While the plastic industry is spending millions of dollars to fight these ordinances. You can help make the change and say no to the overuse of plastic products. Don’t support an industry that is having a negative impact on our world. Think about the future. Think about the world as a whole. Glaser Orthodontics wants to remind you that we are doing our part. You should too!

Invisalign Braces Near Me

Where Can I Find Invisalign Braces Near Me?

At Glaser Orthodontics, we specialize in Invisalign braces and Invisalign Teen in Cortlandt Manor NY. As a leading orthodontist in Cortlandt Manor, Dr. Glaser both provide the highest quality orthodontic care at an affordable price that are capable of accommodating any budget.

How Much Do Invisalign Braces Cost Near Me?

Our team understands that no two patients have the same needs, therefore no two treatment plans are ever exactly the same. The Invisalign cost is dependent on individual factors such as the location, length of treatment, and the severity of issues. However, the cost of Invisalign braces in Cortlandt Manor NY may be cheaper compared to a bigger city or a higher income neighborhood.

Does Invisalign Hurt?

The majority of patients experience minor to no pain throughout their Invisalign treatment. However, there may be slight discomfort when wearing a new set of aligners for the first time. Although, this is only a sign that your treatment is working effectively as intended. Invisalign is composed of smooth, lightweight thermoplastic which eliminates stainless steel brackets for maximum comfort.

Am I A Good Candidate For Invisalign Braces?

invisalign braces near meThe only way to know for sure if you are a good candidate for Invisalign is to have a free consultation at Glaser Orthodontics. As a leading Tacoma orthodontist, Dr. Glaser take this opportunity to look at your teeth, assess your current condition, and recommend treatment options. If you already know you want Invisalign, an orthodontist will be able to explain details such as length of treatment and cost. However, Invisalign is not as effective as traditional braces with treating more severe conditions such as rotated or misalignment of jaws.

Why Choose Invisalign?

Invisalign offers benefits that are not possible with traditional braces or any other option of orthodontic treatment. Braces can hinder your appearance, affect self-esteem, and restrict your diet throughout the entire length of treatment. Traditional braces are composed of metal, archwires, and elastics, which can cause discomfort. Invisalign offers distinct advantages such as being:

  • Removable
  • Clear
  • Comfortable

What Foods To Eat With Braces

Where Can I Find Braces In Cortlandt Manor NY?

Our team at Glaser Orthodontics specializes in orthodontic care including braces, clear braces, Invisalign, and Invisalign Teen in Cortlandt Manor NY. We are dedicated to providing high-quality orthodontic treatment at an affordable cost that accommodates any budget. We understand the importance of brushing and flossing regularly with braces to ensure teeth and gums remain healthy.

What Foods Can I Eat With Braces?

Braces may require some patients to alter their diet in order to avoid damaging braces such as broken brackets or wires. An orthodontist in Cortlandt Manor NY recommends that you eat softer foods such as rice, pasta, steamed vegetables, and fruit. Even desserts such as ice cream or yogurt are recommended, as the cold can provide relief for irritation.

What Foods Should I Avoid With Braces?

what foods to eat with braces cortlandt manor nyCrunchy sticky, or chewy foods can damage braces, leading to additional appointments with a Cortlandt Manor orthodontist and lengthen treatment time. When you follow Dr. Glaser’s instructions about what foods to eat with braces, you will achieve optimal results. If you have braces, you should avoid the following foods:

  • Caramel, gum, or hard candy
  • Apples, popcorn, or pretzels
  • Bagels, rolls, or pizza crust

How To Avoid Damaging Braces

Keeping your teeth clean is an important part of orthodontic treatment, and it may take some time to adjust to brushing with braces. However, it can take years to straighten teeth with braces, and any damage to wires or brackets will increase the length of your treatment. To prevent damaging braces, select a variety foods you are able to eat comfortably and safely. If you are looking to achieve straighter teeth, but do not want to alter your diet or appearance, Invisalign is an ideal option. Both Invisalign and Invisalign Teen provide the same results as traditional braces while remaining removable and nearly invisible.

How To Make Invisalign More Comfortable

The Invisalign system has become popular for the various advantages it offers. Unlike traditional metal braces, Invisalign aligners are lightweight, comfortable, and most importantly, virtually invisible! Clear aligners are made of a smooth thermoplastic intended for maximum comfort. Aligners are worn for about two weeks each, until being replaced by the following set in the series. However, some patients may experience slight discomfort or soreness when wearing a new set of aligners for the first time until their mouth adjusts. Here are some helpful tips on how to make Invisalign more comfortable:

Emery board

Many Invisalign and Invisalign Teen patients receive a new set of aligners and experience some initial slight discomfort from the edge of their Invisalign aligners. In order to resolve this issue, we recommend using an emery board, which is similar to a nail file, featuring a smooth side and a coarse side. An emery board may help with smoothing out the edges for a more comfortable fit.

Orthodontic wax

Orthodontic wax is a silicone wax that is made for dental use and applies clear. In addition to using an emery board, you can also apply orthodontic wax along the gum line to help reduce or prevent irritation in your gums, tongue, or lip. A small strip of wax is pushed up flat against the gums to prevent Invisalign aligner edges from irritating gums.

Canker-X

Canker-X is an ointment used for the treatment of canker sores and other sores in the mouth. This ointment contains a topical anesthetic known as benzocaine, which helps numb the area of application. In addition, canker-x also acts a bandage that sticks to gums or lips to provide hours of comfort and relief.

Advil

how to make invisalign more comfortable cortlandt manor nyA Cortlandt Manor orthodontist such as Dr. Glaser may prescribe medication for pain if necessary. However, over-the-counter pain relievers are very helpful in the 24 hour adjustment period with your new set of aligners. When wearing clear aligners for the first time, it may be beneficial to apply aligners and take aspirin before sleep to prevent discomfort and soreness. As a result, your aligners should have a more comfortable fit by the time you wake up.

Biotene & XyliMelts

Invisalign may cause dry mouth in some patients, especially those who do public speaking such as speeches, lectures, or business meetings. Biotene is a moisturizing mouth spray that prevents dry mouth by lubricating the inside of your mouth for hours of additional comfort. XyliMelts are lozenges that rest in between your cheek and gums in order to coat, soothe, and moisturize the mouth throughout the day or night.
